The thing is, Tim, that there a few types of attendees to these events:

- the student, which can readily accepts any idea proposed by the
presenter. In the XSIMontreal events, this is about 30-50% of the
audience.

- the "interested" (salesman, other software developer, etc), that
basically doesn't know much about the software but is there to be "in
touch". In our events this is generally less than 5-10%.

- there is sometimes one or more XSI developers or Softimage employee,
which I'm not really sure what they are looking for but I believe they
want to "keep in touch".

- and the production professional, which forms the rest the of the
audience. That one is very hard to please, because hopes to learn
something new. However, production professionals already know a lot,
so it's hard to teach them something.

For example, we had an awesome one-hour presentation about Sin City,
that I consider to be one of the best ever, given by this lists very
own Robert Moodie. I asked various people what they thought, and they
all said: I was hoping to learn something new and special.... It
seemed that the truth (just hard work and talent) wasn't enough.

Under this perspective, I can easily conceive that potential
presenters are relunctant to go on stage and talk. Having considered
several times making a presentation, I can easily understand that
feeling. It's just a matter of not wanting to disappoint the audience.

The tips & trick session is an idea to get past that fear, where presenters don't have to spend 30-60 minutes talking about the same subject. We hope that more people will contribute to the XSI Montreal events that way, afterall there is definitely knowledge to be gained.

You mean you aren´t interested in catching up or is it you aren´t sure what you´re talking about? Personally, I need to ask alot once in a while...

Given the backround of most people here, I really wonder
why so many of you folks are so protective about your
workflows, be it the [W] key or the model implementation,
I never suggested it´s all wrong, just asked why it needs to
be like that or how it could be improved?

"It´s allways been this way, I don´t see why this should be changed!"

Both types, Stalin and the boy in the dipers, tend to insist on their rights...
even our former cancelor insisted he had won the elections, that italian,
Berlusconi too, go figure...one may be wrong.

Cheers
