I'm not too sure if this is precise enough, but there used to be a Lollipop Texture Projection Method.

(I think it was underProperty  --> Texture Projection --> Create New Texture Projection --> Lollipop)

This is from memory and I'm not in front of XSI right now, so no guarantees...  ;-))

Then HDRShop can convert this into a spherical map if you need one.
