Well our clouds were nice fluffy white ones. This was an early test:-

I'll dig out the project and post it up shortly.

Hi Chris,

Posting a MAT will be greatly appreciated! I installed BA yesterday.
I agree, tweaking looks likes a "make sure you've eaten and have plenty of water" type of approach.
If you happen to have a stormy/dark grey sky, that would be excellent!

Thanks for your help and have a good day.

Sorry to be late on this,
As most have mentioned, the BA Volume shaders would be the way to go.
We've just done load of nice looking animating clouds using particles
with the BA shaders. Very nice. It took quite a bit of grappling to get
them looking right, with no artifacts, but it is possible. I could post
up a material preset if you want?

Good morning,

I'm looking for a plugin (XSI) or standalone app that can recreate
violent-storm cloud/sky VFX

ala "War of the Worlds" or "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."

Does anyone have any clues as to where I can look to achieve this
effect?

I looked at the BinaryAlchemy plugin. It looks great! Does it have this
'animatable' capability? Does anybaody have a any feedback using this?

I'm putting RealFlow through some tests but the turnaround process is
very time consuming when colliding fluids.

Thanks and have a good day.
