telnet <slave ip> <port number>
If you get a black screen then it connects ok and you have no networking
issue (or firewall). If you simply get a message saying it is trying to
connect then the workstation machine cannot connect due to one of the
reasons above. Check them all (restart the slave machine as well). Check
the service by right-clicking MyComputer and choosing Manage. Go to the
services section and be sure it is running. To check if the port is
actually listening use the netstat command from a command prompt on the
client. To check the ip address of the client run ipconfig /all on the
client (in a command prompt). For a general networking issue (like you
can't ping the client from the master, consult a networking person, or if
you are one, check the cables, switches, etc.
Make sure the built-in windows firewall on the client allows the master
to connect to the proper port (or turn off the firewall if you know the
other security consequences and have other safeguards in place, like a
real hardware firewall at the LAN gateway).
