I think Thomas idea is something like in Messiah. Shader nodes with the ability to output several things from the shader.
Would love something like this in XSI !

A "multi-lightmap" output would be usefull too. Why only one lightmap input limitation in the material ?

Cheers

For a long time I've at least wanted the ability to put custom shaders
in the Nodes pull-down menu.  It's such a huge time-suck browsing
through "more" every time.  Perhaps this is already possible, but I
don't know how.  I've looked and didn't see the Nodes menu of the
rendertree listed as one of the places you can add stuff.  Maybe one
idea would be to make a totally separate toolbar with all your shaders
on it and use that to get stuff into an active render tree view.  Or you
could make something like XSI's material preset library, but just use
your nodes instead of entire shader trees.  I'm not misunderstanding
what you want to do, am I?

But I wonder if there is a more integrated way of doing it? Is there a programming interface for something like that in XSI or is it as closed a shell as it looks like? I couldn't find anything in the docs and honestly don't know exactly where to look.
