Hmm, always checking the list very late, but perhaps there is a solution...
If it is a simple screen projection and the texture should not stick to the particles, then it should be possible with some render
tree nodes.
Hmm, what about 2 scalar_states, setting one to screen position X, the other to screen position Y.
Then plug both into a conversion Scalar2Vector node, plug this into the coord of an image_lookup node.
This hand-made screen projection should work even for particles...
