We're using FrameCycler here and it supports playing quicktimes, avis etc,
as well as image sequences and you can link any audio file with frame
sequences, offset it etc... so far it's the only player we've found that
will enable you (other than the XSI and Shake flipbooks) to step frame by
frame and gives you all the control and more than the quicktime player
does... the only hiccup though is the audio doesn't scrub when you're
stepping through frames.
It's awesome to have A/B compare, side by side, applying custom LUTs, etc...
it's really easy to create tools to automate its use depending on your
fileSpec so you can review individual shots, shots with their preceding and
trailing counterparts, whole sequences, etc automatically associating the
correct audio files with them and adding the correct frame offsets etc, all
from the command line... it seriously leaves quicktime player in the dust
especially when dealing with 1 and 2k image files...
