Is there some way to set the values of a weightmap to match those of a UV texturemap?

I need to control hair cutting/density based on the incidence angle of the geometry (incidence to the Y axis). I want to have no hair on polys facing downward, but blend the hair so that it is full density facing up.

So my thought was to use the incidence shader to make a rendermap. But then I realized that I don't seem to be able to connect the cut map or density map to a Texturemap. I can connect it to the UV coords, but to the values of a texture.

Any suggestions? Thanks,

On XSIBase I found this tool called Image to Weightmap:

But the link is dead. Does anyone have this tool laying around that they could post or send my way?

Thanks!
