Title: RE: shave and a haircut updated.... again....
im well aware of the implementation of shave in maya, i watched the DrWho team tearing chunks out of Joe Alter's people while trying
to render a werewolf, the usability issues in maya aren't the issue (at least not anymore)
it was of interest to the list (as a general discussion topic) because it stated better rendering with mental ray, i was curious if whether Joe Alter's statement;
 "We continue to work very closely behind the scenes with Avid/Softimage to improve the engine, performance, and quality" meant that we would benefit from this improved render quality

i think calling this a lame thread is less than constructive, answering some of the issues raised is more pertinent...

A lame thread... again....  (did anyone subscribe this list to the rss feed of cgfocus?) :^)

so there's an update that integrates the tools that were in a separate app inside the GUI of Maya. This is not a problem in XSI, the tools are already integrated the GUI and does not launch a separate app.  Also we write the Mental Ray hair integration and shaders, there is no comparison since it's not the same code, so an update there doesn't mean it is better than XSI.  The integration in XSI is done by people in montreal, and for the plug-ins for other apps, that work all needs redone by them.

Is it just me, or is this list on a general 'downer' at the moment when
it comes to XSI updates / new features etc?
I'm not getting many possitive vibes here!
...where's the nearest cliff...?
