Subject: [OT] time for vacation... I think....
Hi All,
I see a lot of aggitation on the list lately. So my advice... take vacation :) Enjoy that the summer is here (same same for LA people.. and winter for Oz people). So chill the **** down... and have a beer or two.
Yes we are frusrated that all the features that exist in software X isn't in "ours" (me included). But the matter of the fact is that we can't have everything we want in this world. The people at Softimage is working hard to fullfill our needs... sometimes they make a wrong turn ( read: FaceRobot )... but hey... they are only human. And they do come up with things that makes our job easier. Sometimes the community also help them on their way (T2S shaders...) and we can hope they implement it for the next release.
All in all it's a bumpy ride, Maya is releasing 8.0 at siggraph I heard... and they still don't have a decent SubDivs as we do. Or even try and use multiple projections.. or try and transfer multiple projections to the same model (ask any maya artist and they will shed some tears). Or that you have a camera projection that doesn't slide or display a correct image. Or that they do have passes now... but not partitions... Or that as soon as you parent something to a bone it will create a new bone that will be taking into count when you do your weightmaps... or the fact that when you paint one bone it will effect others... The list can grow long, and in the end of they day XSI does make 90% of my work 200% faster than in Software X. It's the 10% that can bug the hell out of us all sometimes... but as always we will find a workaround since everything else is so fast that we have time to test several ways of doing it.
I for one is taking 6 weeks now, then back to the freelancing inferno which I call "my day job". But mean while I will try and recharge my batterys (which I will need... baby is due in two weeks).
A long mail about nothing, just throwing my thoughts out to the list :)
regards stefan andersson
