I've seen this rather often.
I highly recommend Rhino for IGES fixing. Even the Demoversion can save up to 25 times.
I usually export with the softimage preset - sometimes just loading and saving with Rhino fixes the issues.
At other times I do a roundtrip through SolidThinking and Rhino... ;-)
And sometimes you have to go in and fix it by hand.
There is a pdf on the Rhino website about IGES fixing if you need more in depth help.
IGES is a "standard" with more dialects than any other format I have to use - and XSI is especially picky about it...
I guess this is half because of the limited NURBS implementation and half because of the importer himself.
