The mental ray SDS was based on the Mental Matter library, not Catmull-Clarke , which made it pretty useless. Alias included it in Maya, but Soft didn't bother, because of the weaknesses.
I hope Soft does adopt the new CC rendering in future XSI versions. Will be faster and better for memory.

What do you mean? I found it only in Maya but not in mental ray
standalone at least not in the mental images documentation. Can you
point me to the page? I thought only mental matter has it.
