I have opposite experience. Why the hell is XSI re-render region when you switch from/to Weight Paint panel to Main Toolbar(for example when you styled hairs and than you rendered region which you would like to save in region button on the left panel). And the other cases where you just open some ppg no change of parameters at all and region is re-rendered too even with auto refresh disabled.

Another funny thing is when you render preview with FG and you cover XSI preview window with any other system window than you will notice your gather points are computed again from the beginning.
