I've not coded with python, but I have been coding Qt a fair bit
lately. It has python binding and it's absolutely beautiful to use.
Possibly the best example of OO programming I've ever seen.

you can do some interesting stuff, with css, php/html, and a
database
Sure can. In our case we're using psp, which is embedded mod python.
No reason to ever hit javascript when you can go Python all the way.
