That's not entirly correct. Neither of the two licensing flavours includes upgrades. It's just that you get a discount if you buy the one-year only license compared to a permanent one. I just stumbled into that situation last year. On the other hand, every update that does not require a new license naturally will work for both of the setups.

There´s two licensing flavours available (at least in Germany),
a 1-year temp license including all updates/upgrades as well
as a permanent license of a specific build, e.g. you buy 5.1
and keep it but won´t be elligible to simply download 6.0
without buying another edu license for that. Behaviour is
part of both packages. Since your e-mail account suggests
a german location, check out Mario Prang, www.slash.de.

Whatever the choice you pick, you´ll need to prove elligiblity
by filling out some forms and such.

Cheers

I believe you don't get a license for Softimage|Behaviour (which ships with a commercial advanced license); if you'd be interested in that special piece of software you should clearify with your reseller in advance. Besides of that, the student / teacher version is a full blown XSI Advanced, without any limitations (functionality wise).

Cheers!
