It's always been this way - there is no fix - maya's capture does the
same thing.
You could try rendering a wireframe pass as the render engine, but I
don't know whether it suffers the same problem or not.

I had this same problem years ago with I think version 1.5 of xsi. And
having it return now I'm reminded how annoying it is. Anyone have any ideas
