I'm looking to maybe buying a new workstation soon and I need some
OS/platform advice. I'm a bit torn between Linux and Windows (and
possibly MAC). I've been using PC/Windows for years. I've always
preferred Windows simply for its convenience.....It can run anything out
there. I need it to do this because I will use just about any tool or
plugin I can get my hands on. I hate to be limited due to OS concerns.
I would love to take the the plunge and go the Linux route but a big
problem for me is no Photoshop (not sure why the hell Adobe STILL
doesn't have a Linux version out). I know I can use a separate machine
for that but I was looking to avoid that if possible.
Mac is possibly an option but again, there are some compatibility issues
there. Lots of software out there can not run on MAC. Being that I'm an
XSI user, I need to make sure I can quickly utilize any plug-in, addon,
shader that becomes available and not worry about compatibility. I also
don't know if I can get used to the different keyboard, mouse layout
stuff. I know there are workarounds for all this but it basically all
comes down to simplicity and quick execution for me.
Also there is the whole 32bit vs. 64bit issue. I would love to go 64bit
but that also shrinks my compatibility pool as well. Anyway, just
looking to get a little advice. I'm a freelancer who works from my home
studio mostly now. I'm not a big code guy either so scripting to do
things like move files and make folders is just stupid, slow and not fun
for me :-)
Any info is greatly appreciated.
