Try gatoring basic weights from your characters body onto the clothes
- then tweak the for the pieces further away.

I'm working on a cartoony character that has tight clothes. I don't normally
do character stuff so I sort of fumble around on this stuff. When I modeled
him originally, I made the shirt and shorts separate objects. This made it
easier to model and texture, but when it came time to envelope, it was a
real pain. The clothes and body kept intersecting and shifting due to
slightly different weighting. Is it better to make everything one mesh and
use clusters or masks to break the texture up? The character also may end up
having fur all over it and I was having a terrible time keeping the hair
from penetrating his clothes. Tips or suggestions appreciated. Thanks.
