If you are from Europe and get job offer from an Canadian 3d company
outside quebec: the work visa takes 1 day work and the next day you can
leave to Canada. I did this. Quebec requires more paper work from
Employer and Employee.

In the US, its very difficult to find cg feature production
experienced people in xsi that are available.
Finding those that are willing to move to your location will also be
an issue for some, and the rates will have to be competitive to draw
them. Some people have families, some people want to only move to a
certain places, like where one might vacation ;) and yes that the same
issues for a user of any app, but there IS a different demographic of
users between Maya and XSI seperated by level of expertise as well.

In our review of what software to use for future projects with our
producers and softimage, available xsi talent was our number one
issue.
In fact finding any 1. available 2. xsi experienced 3. US visa ok
artists/tds was extremely difficult. I 'think' after experiencing work
in France that it would be easier to find experinced available xsi
people in Europe, but depends on wether a studio is in a place poeple
want to live.
(As an aside the remark that its "super easy" to hire people outside
of quebec is completely incorrect as are many of these past
immigration remarks, there are of course lots of visa requirements in
most countires, and even the fastest visas to apply for still take
time with the right credentials)

Fortunatley a few people here on Barnyard like Jason Barlow had good
people connections and were able to pull from around the globe and
find a few in the US even. Admitedly earlier recruiters on Barnyard
never got back to people that Jason etc later brought on so there
actually was 'some' available talent but was not connected with or
connected with effectively.

Your recruiters are going to have to be good, know cg, positions etc.
so as not to turn people off, and respond to all levels of people etc.

Some positions require less long term use of XSI and users can be
easily trained if they are willing and not sw centric. Animators
easily transition as the base tools and interface to them are so
similar across the main 3d apps, modelers and lighters fairly easily,
but texture/ shader artists need to be real efficient and the most
important ones to get on board are TDs and pipeline people to keep it
smooth, efficient, and being done right.

I could add so much more but basically there are people out there,
scour the xsi list and ask people directly you think would be somone
your looking for and if they have recommendations. I found xsibase,
softimage jobs page and the list produced almost no leads for hires,
versus asking the xsi people I was impressed with on the list or the
base or from other jobs and for their recommendations of others.

BTW most of our hardcore XSI guys have been scooped up already or are en
route.
Sad thing is most are working in Maya or MAX now so some of that great
XSI knowledge is on hold.

Anyway I could on and on, it was very hot topic here. XSI is a
fantastic tool in a pipeline and the Soft people are great people and
very helpful.
I think your worries are founded but if managed well you'll be fine
and happy going XSI as main 3d, at least with a pipe that allows for
multi app when needed.
