I've got a problem with a high contrast, smaller than a pixel object
that blinks pretty badly unless the min samples is very high. I can't
afford the render times (of course) to render it correctly but I think
that setting high sampling for just that object would do the trick.

Yeah, crank up the pixel samples (like 30-40 if need be). Keep the shading
samples as low as you can get away with (often 5-10).
