Just a short retrospect on yesterdays Usermeeting here in Berlin, Germany:
It was really great. I learned quite a lot, especially since I am just now starting to look into rigging in XSI for the first time (before I used messiah:studio for that mostly). Helge Mathee had quite some eye-openers for me :-)
To see Helges Template Based Rigging Plugin in more depth in the hands of his master was very helpful. While I had seen the video on XSIBlog, I missed a lot of the specials in this tool and most of all I missed some of the basic ideas behind it. Now I grokked it! Cool!
The Particle Flocking on the basis of particle events, which drives a flock of crows along a guiding spline with a lot of control on how close or loosely they follow it and how "individual" they behave was also impressive. They not only had one pattern of movement, but several which were blended between to make the look much more natural. I was really inspired by this.
Helges custom Hair Dynamics (developed together with Graham D Clark) with the option to also "rig" the hair in parallel and therefore allow the animator to actually grab the hair and animate it "on top" and together with the automatic behavior was such a pleasure to watch - such an intuitive tool and workflow we all dream of :-)
So a thousand THANKS go to Helge Mathee for this great presentation! Superb inspiration!
Also I want to thank Ioannis Zonitsas for scouting the location - it was the best one so far IMO!
And thanks to all who participated for a very nice evening!
Hope to see you all on the next meeting.
Best regards,
Thomas Helzle
