Don't shoot the messenger, I'm simply relaying what I've been hearing from a majority of the TDs who've been here... I've been using it for some time now, know a little (just enough) and can generally find my way around problems I come across... I came in late on this discussion and hadn't read all the posts about TDs needing more time to get accustomed to the SDK and the arsenal of tools it provides etc and I agree with it, however I've met a few people that have been more than frustrated with it  too (which didn't help the learning curve). Actually, the guy who single handedly wrote our entire Renderman exporter never stops bitching about it and although I don't always agree with him, he does make some valid points (and just for the record, he also happens to be one hell of a smart cookie)... Raff can confirm...

The problem we've experienced the most is not with animators and artists, (they love XSI, and being able to remap the keys to fit a maya workflow has been really really helpful), it's been mostly with TDs from all types of backgrounds who just find it really painful to work with the SDK in its current state (as of 4.2 anyway).

Personally, I find that quite extraordinary and my observation has been that it's not the case at all.  I certainly don't believe that the Maya SDK is better than the XSI one.
