AO using dirtmap?

Or the MR AO shader?

Final gathering, I'd expect some real nasty render times but I did try AO with some success a while back. The theory at least would be to do an AO pass but there are some issues with the way hair transparency works that could present a puzzle for you. Check it out carefully. AO still isn't fast but it's sort of workable if you've time and patience and it definitely adds to the look.

Before i set off down this road which - to me appears to be madness - i was wondering if anyone had actually lit hair with FG and got results that were A/ good enough for comercials clients and B/ rendered quicker than hours a frame.

Any experiences most welcome before I tie up our renderfarm for weeks...

cheers.

A slightly balding Andi.
