Hi,

Have been having a fiddle with my volumes and as long as sampling is fine everything seems to look just dandy. Nice blending of colours as well.
You also need to ensure that your end falloff is larger than your max raylength otherwise you'll get black edgdes to the cones.

All looking good so far though, must have been a bit twitchy from experiences two years back and beyond.

The overlapping/intersection thing is a mental ray problem, not a shader
problem. My understanding, though, is that it's fixed. Certainly, as I
mentioned before and as mentioned by Peter, working with the quality
settings seems to get rid of most artifacts. I remember a fair bit of work
being done on this by mental ray quite a long time ago and from everything
I've done over the past couple of years or so it seems a whole lot better.
