XSIAmbientOcclusion Shader ray classification?

hey everyone

what type of rays are the "probe" or "occlusion" rays?

also i am trying to get an object to recieve contact like shadows from another object, but not show its detail shadows on the object. i think the answer to the first question will help me figure out this, but i figured what the hell i would put it out there
