Hm, you want an object to recieve occlusion from another object but not from itself? In that case just put the ground object (for example) in a separate partition and then make an override to turn off its secondary rays.

also i am trying to get an object to recieve contact like shadows from another object, but not show its detail shadows on the object. i think the answer to the first question will help me figure out this, but i figured what the hell i would put it out there
