For Realflow 3 there was a SDK with all the formats explained - they were pretty simple. And there even was an offer that you get a free RF license if you write a plugin for an so far unsupported software (I was looking into it for messiah:studio at that time).
I should have it on a backup somewhere if somebody needs it.
NextLimit lost me when I was checking out their maxwell renderer for a company I was working for at the time. After a very long and stony beta, they managed to come up with a "Release Candidate" that not only was using a completely different concept of interaction, but also had only half the features of the beta. Huh?
Weird way to develop something and build customer trust. ;-)
What I read here fits into that picture.
Thankfully I was able to satisfy my fluid-needs with Blender and Michele Sandronis fantastic metaball tool so far :-)
Cheers,
Thomas Helzle
