For "standard" scripting, xsi script editor is the best for me. Ok, there are no colors, no way to reduce functions display, but... the "Run" button make all the difference ! :-)
I find external text editor useful only with self installing plugin.
You right click on a plugin in the Plugin Manager, choose edit to open
it in your favorite text editor, set some change then save
and update the plugin manager. A "reload pluggin on focus" in the preference would be cool like with modified image clip. I set "Automatically reload externally modified scripts" in the preference but it doesn't update when I switch between Notepad++ and XSI. Did I miss something ?
Cheers

No I think it's likely what Andy and Kim suggested.
Cutting and pasting and editing in external editors is definitely rife with these potential errors.

Is it a problem with the font that your editor is using? (and if so, can you change it?)
