As far as the 2GB limitation:

If you're talking about standard XP (not the 64-bit version), it's a limitation of the OS (2000/XP both have it if I recall correctly). The highest bit in memory addresses is reserved for kernel virtual memory addresses. So of your 4GB potential space (2^32) your applications can only use 2GB (2^31).

Now if it happens on XP64 (or Vista 64) as well, there definitely might be some sort of BIOS issue...

Regarding the new Macs, there seems to be some limitation
in the BIOS settings, resulting in winXP only "seing" 2GB Ram max.
Could be this is getting adressed soon but still worth being mentioned.
