.NET languages are no replacement for C++. You'll get better performance with C++ because there is no runtime involved unlike .NET. All .NET languages (VB.NET, J#, boo, etc...) can be used in XSI 6.0, unfortunately IronPython is not one of those because the object types it generates are not exposed to .NET. A special integration wil be required for IronPython.
Although C# scripting is possible with .NET, XSI doesn't integrate C# as a scripting language: C# plugins have to be compiled. However, there is a C# scripting example available with the SDK which allows you to run C# code directly from the scripting editor. I think it's a great tool to learn C#.

So if I'm understanding this correctly and C# is an equivalent to C++ in
it's use inside XSI does this mean that one would also be able to use
