i dont know why this thread has turned into an attack, or if it even has cause it wasn't my intention. I think one person probably said something inappropriate before your posting. either way i want to hear his opinion, including the devs as you can see. It sounds like he HAS done a great job. also others have shown interest in this too

i was at siggraph and wanted to talk to Moritz to understand his opinion, which i am afraid i wont because he probably thinks he would have to come on here to defend himself. rather than engage in a debate about design and where softimage's API lacks. If Moritz is going to make a public blanket statement about this subject, i feel we (XSI list readers) deserve an explanation of his opinions. I dont know you Raffaele but i think you maybe over reacting a bit which in turn is probably going make him overreact about the situation and will escalate from there...

lastly i may have misunderstood it but i think stephen was pointing out a problem with the docs. it didn't read personal but if there is something hidden in that between you guys, then oops. because i thought he was getting me to realize a problem and i personally didn't know about

young, naive, and hopeful...

Not by this starting email, but by the replies that are talking about
The Ritz, aka Moritz, the developer who, single handedly, wrote affogato
twice in three months.

A person, who doesn't even read this list, is being attacked at a
personal level because he dared to post something about an application
(and not about the people behind it). A F*CKING application, not the
dear families of the people writing it.

About the person: Yes, Moritz is strongly opinionated and can come
across as harsh. So what?
Most of what he writes, when he's that harsh, is meant to be slightly
humorous, as Moritz is a fairly talented person, but humble enough to
not take himself so seriously to cover everything in a corporate patinae.

His statements do reflect his opinons, but they are often intentionally
amplified, because that's the kind of person he is, and that's the way
he likes discussions (and I've had a fair few of all natures in over a
year of working with him); if you can't see past the form and to the
knowledge and competence behind it, then I'm seriously disappointed in
whoever you are.

With Affogato he's about to do more for the XSI community (Moritz not
only wrote it, but also maintained it, extended it, and convinced RSP to
OSS it) then most blindfolded app fanatics have done over 6 versions;
that alone in my opinion is worth more for Soft then the negative slant
his comments might have, and I won't go into the things I can't talk
about (like what feedback and other things went on between companies).

And for the record Stephen, Moritz never complained about the implicit
thing the way you seem to present it.
That question took 4 of you guys in Soft 7 days to reply to and several
mails with snippets of code, so spare me the condesendancy please, and
the point was about inconsistancies and inefficiency in traversing
(about that we're still waiting for a reply btw, Moritz included).

I'm seriously appalled, and definitely have to reconsider a community I
used to consider pretty meritocratic and capable to look past appearances.
