If you're into making one up yourself, you can:

- pipe your source image (A) into a colorcorrector, play around with the levels and gamma to isolate the highlights. (B)

- pipe that into two blur nodes, one adding a horizontal blur (C), the other adding a vertical blur. (D)

- add (B) on top of (A) with a math composite set to add or screen (whichever you fancy) and do the same with the two blurred versions. (C) and (D)
this should give you a "cross" star.
I dont recall if fxtree has a directional blur, to create a diagonal blur, or perhaps there was one in the box blur or fast blur. If so, you can add diagonal streaks too in the same way.

Once you got all this you can start to play around with the intensity of each math node to find a nice balance, and play with the initial colorcorrection to add more or less stars, with the gamma mainly, or more intense with the brightness, and you can add more or less saturation or tint them blueish or ...

a cross would mean a horizontal and a vertical blur, and x would need two directional blurs, a 6 streak star would need a vertical and two directional blurs. you can combine a cross and an X, to get an 8 streak star, you get the idea.
Just keep in mind that each direction need a seperate blur node to get the streak.

And last but not least, you can multiply your source image with an animated noise pattern (cant recall if we have that in fxtree? havent been using it for comping lately) to break it up, and create some twinkling, before going into all the blur nodes.

That should be about it. If you would like a preset, let me know.

This will become a bit slower than your typical starburst plugin, though they tend to be slowish too.
But it looks more advanced than one single node ;-)

Hi All,
Is there anyway of faking a starburst type of filter in the FxTree?
Cheers
