There we are. Some very useful info! Thanks!!
You're right about the additional features the FxTree could do with, glows, motion blur, depth of field etc.
Consider them requested!

Isn't the FxTree just a port of Media Illusion (give or take)?
Were there no plugins or stuff for that that could be ported?
I'm actually not that bothered as I'd rather have more cool 3d stuff,
but it would useful if some new stuff got added now and then.

I was hoping the availability of the UFO API would get the Illusion third parties (Genarts, speedsix,The Foundry, pixel farm) to simply re-compile their plug ins for XSI (that's all that should be necessary). We contacted some, but it hasn't gathered interest, possibly because the size of the market opportunity is hard to calculate or too low. Probably in the future we'll investigate the OFX API (which is the plug-in API used by Nuke); Tinder for OFX would still set you back 650$ USD. Which is exepensive, but still about 3 times less than the Illusion plug-ins used to sell for.

As far as I know, Avid or Pinnacle doesn't have own any useful effects so I don't think there are low hanging fruits. (In fact Pinnacle unfortunately sold off Knoll Lens Flares a few years ago, which would have been useful.)

Personally I think the fxtree only needs a few good glows, and lens blurs including motion blur and depth-of-field. Licensing something, or building an AfterFx plug-in emulator (which would be Windows 32-bit only!) would be too expensive at this point, XSI could use these resources for more globally beneficial things.
