I agree 1,000,000% with this statement, Lu. We had two 30 minute shows to
produce about 3 years ago, and there were many scenes with 6 characters
talking, moving, eye lines needing to match, etc. It was a NIGHTMARE
doing a master scene. We tried it on a few shots, and just totally
gave up on it. It created all the problems listed in previous posts
and a few that were probably specific to Maya, which is what we used at
the time (and really the reason I switched to XSI!).

Shifting animation, loading the scene, changing props mid-stream,
lighting so that it worked for everyone, animation so that it looked
good no matter where the camera was, etc. All contributed to my
losing (even more of) my hair, and made the lives of the people working
on it hell for 6 months. 

And we didn't even have to worry about cloth sims...
