I've worked recently on a 24 inch 16/9 flatpanel at
1920x1200 resolution and must say it was so nice, that Im about to switch
to one.
Your fears are just, but its not as bad
as say 2 years ago. Flatpanels have come a very long way.
The stability and sharpness for instance: put it
next to a crt and you'll find that the lcd is more
comfortable and less tiring on the eyes.
Looking from an angle has become much better,
allthough for client driven sessions its still not ideal.
If your office space is lit with neon light I would
reconsider, since the refresh rate of flatpanels (60-75hz or so) is less
than CRT's (100hz and more) and after looking at it all day, it's kind of
bothering. Have experienced that only in neon lit spaces where CRT's coped
much better.
Keep the CRT around since its still gonna
be better for judging colors.
There's just so many more nuances that will be
visible on the CRT, and especially when lighting or compositing thats crucial.
I was never much into dual screen, and having two
screens at a different format and resolution
(eg one 16/9 at 1920x1200 and one 4/3 at 1600x1200)
can give all kinds of problems.
Captures that are partly off screen, interface
that's never perfectly split between the two screens,..
so you might find yourself switching between single
and dual setup based on what you're doing.
I've heard good things about those dells, can't
comment on the eizo. Stay away from HP.
I'd be tempted to go for the apple 23 inch cinema
display. Its the best flatpanels I have seen myself.
And they cost about the same as the
dells.
And go and find a store that has several on
display. Seeing several lined up next to one another is more helpfull than
any comments anyone can give you.
