My apologies - I took your response to my asking if I missed the point
to mean that I had not and you didn't think basing a product on an
implementation of windows libraries was a good idea. Do you consider
this an ideal approach?
For what it's worth I would have no issue with Softimage using such an
approach if it was just for translating windowing calls, but mainwin
seeps into the core and forces upon us technologies which
fundamentally aren't supported across platforms, but which do have
high quality cross platform alternatives. I'd still find a full
framework like Qt more preferable because of features such as it's
builtin plugin support, bindings to multiple languages and the
simplicity with which you could pass an additional layer on top of the
existing gui to allow us to create plugin which can enhance user
interaction more comprehensively and simply than the current API
provisions. Plus it's signals and slots architecture would give a lot
more flexibility with how we connect our custom classes into XSI.
