ok here's another one for you.
i needed to render a toon outline pass for a scene. so setup the scene. rendered it via a batch on another machine.
looked at the rendered images and they dont match what i'm seeing in the viewport or what the other passes have rendered.
its as if the animation is offset by 50 frames.
render the same scene in xsi or using a the same batch script on my machine and it renders fine..

The shaderballs do not do anything when the application
gains or loose focus, only the function that scans for
image clip changes is aware of this event, and only
does its works if that user preference is on.  Typically
a dodgy network or an image's UNC path onto a machine
that's been turned off causes lags with this.

It might be not that simple, have seen that one as well last time I
played with v6, and that particular scene works perfectly well in v5.11.
My initial thought was that I might be doing something wrong with the
shaderball setup. However, since then I had no time to further investigate.
