Well, in Lightwave, you have points.. which dont render. But you can can convert them to SPP.. single point polys, which do. A starfield creation trick in LW is to create a highly tesselated sphere, kill all the polys, and convert the remaining points to polys. You can then use various tools to randomly select, shift and basically get the look you want. LW's single point polys can take colors and materials too..
How can starfields be created in XSI?

I didn't know single point polys existed. Don't you
have to have at least 3 for it to be considered a polygon? Otherwise it's a
point or line ya?

Subject: Starfield Environment
Shader
Can anyone point me to a decent one? I've tried the
legacy night shader, but I get strange artifacting when the camera pans or
tilts - a rippling effect across the stars, and some seem to smear into lines
for a few frames. Failing that, I'm considering the old Lightwave
surrounding-sphere-of-single-point-polys technique, but are single point polys
even possible in XSI?
What other approaches are people using in XSI to
create their starfields?
