I think it's just the complex visual overload you get when opening the render manager up.
We have 8 main menu items down the left, the Current Pass has three main sub-menu items across the top, with the Pass Output having a further 4 sub-sub-menu items listed under that! Maybe it's a design thing, but it's not easy to see which window is open when you have three levels to get your head around. It's quite a lot of information to display, I'm just not convinced the design works.

Why do we have an Explorer in there and Preferences? Those seem like two unnecessary items to have in the main menu.

I *do* like the Render Channels though.

Depends very much how you work with them Andi. It's much more easy to get
yourself set up in a more general way with the presets and prefs than it was
before, for example.

Also, check out the use of channels in the rendertree. A lot of the stuff
you've been doing with passes can be done more easily with channels.

A couple of days ago I spent some time setting up some workflow between XSI
and Fusion. It was pretty obvious right from the early stages that the whole
render and channels re-write was good but it's not until I actually knuckled
down and started to do something serious with it that it started to become
clear just how slick it really is. The decision to rewrite couldn't have
been easy but, for me at least, it's scoring in spades. I'd like to offer up
a big thanks to Halfy and anyone else who was involved. It's a slick piece
of work.

Whilst i'm all for progress, i can't help thinking some aspects of the new
render/scenne/pass/metalray options are a tad over complicated.More clicks -
less work getting done perhaps.
