In many cases, I'm fortunate enough to find a workaround between the
time I post, and the time someone replies. This was also one of those
cases.*

2 keyframes lead to the bad behavior. Setting more keyframes at the end
of the sim, turning off the mute, seems to fix things and give me the
desired effect.
