hmm, i have an old memory that lens shaders only enforce raytracing if you try to modify the ray? (like you would if you were trying to to lens distortion of course..)
i thought i had an old lens shader i worte that i just did colour look-ups in (no modding the ray) that worked in scan line??
then again, it was a long time ago :/

    True. Would be nice.

And very expensive as lens shaders force mental ray to do raytracing all the way through instead of using the hybrid scanline/raytrace optimized method.
