Yeah, you'll never ever encounter the vast majority of the ones on
wikipedia. From what I understand, a lot of stuff from the era before
digital intermediates was shot on academy, and these days a lot more
stuff is shot full aperture, .98x.735, then cropped to a particular
aspect ratio. Another thing to be aware of is that with the smaller
format digital cameras, lens information is sometimes talked about in
terms of 35mm film, because that's what everyone knows. So, if someone
is talking about a 35 mm lens, they're often talking about a 35mm lens
on 35mm film, not a 35mm telephoto lens for a digital camera. In fact,
exif headers on digital camera images sometimes include hypothetical
35mm lens info as one of the fields. It really sort of depends on who
you're talking to, what their background is, and whether they're talking
about the shot in the abstract or sitting with a camera in-hand, ready
to shoot the actual footage.
