Maybe it is interesting to look at motor. In motor you can apply motion to a “rig/skeleton” that is just pure nulls. Like with hl2, you can load the .smd file which are

just pure nulls structures of the body, save the motion as a .motor fle and apply to a skeleton rig that the correct name and with bones so you can change the data, and back export it.

So you can bring in your data in as a null structure in XSI, and your motions you have in XSI save them as .motor and you can applied them to you null structure too.

Maybe somewhere in here is a solution with motor.

Hmmm interesting,

So what problem required tweaking?  Was it a translation problem  and does Massive still only support Acclaim?

It is because our Massive dude has asked me to investigate wether we can use his 'agent' rig in XSI - so that when he gets the motion from us, it will/should match up with no extra tweaking - we did do a job recently using the Motionbuilder mocap rig - and he had to fiddle a lot in Massive to get it to work!

Well in that case, bones will not help you because they cannot exit without effectors.

I presume you want to animate in XSI and export clips to Massive, in which case, you can’t really avoid the step of rigging the null or even chain hierarchy,  so this is a pipeline neceesity regardless.

May I ask why you are going via Maya? Is it because XSI doesn’t export to Acclaim?

Yup I know - was just wanting to avoid having to redo it - and also Massive does not use Effectors so was hoping to be able to get the same in XSI!!

What’s the problem with nulls?  If you want an IK skeleton, then it’s simple enough to write a script that builds a skeleton to conform to the null hierarchy and apply the necessary constraints.

Hi all - trying to get an Agent Skeleton out of Massive into XSI using Maya as a conduit and trying out the supplied plugin - but am getting nulls in XSI instead of Bones - anyone know how to change this??

Thanks

Sandy
