Hi!

What´s the best and most efficient way to output a 16bit
or 32bit Z-depth pass from XSI 5.11 and XSI 6.0?

- Render->Pass Options
- In the Render Channels Output group click Add...
- Select "Depth" and hit OK
- click on the entry in the channels list, and hit Edit..., pick format of choice (tif has both 16 bit int and 32 bit float).

I´m looking for both the effective default way and for
the creative solution, where something like a ramp
attached to the camera is projecting from Y down and
rendered with AA off.

Not sure if that counts as creative, but you can do Pass->Edit->New Pass->Depth.
That creates a pass with a constant white shader on all objects and a volume fog on the pass volume.

What´s the setting to turn AA
in mR again, I *think* it´s Triangle 0/0 with treshold 1, right?

Threshold wont matter if min and max samples are both 0. Setting filter size to 1 is important, or you'll get a nice blurry image.

Ciao, Daniel!
