Thanks David, Steven,
both skeletons are in default t-pose and anything but fancy (I thought I'd choose something simple to start with...). However, the skeleton hierachy is SI|3d style, with the effector being a child of the chain's last bone, I wonder if the problems are related to this structure, will try to rearrange things in the next days...
The wiki documentation seems to be a copy of the XSI docs, doesn't seem to help me here. To track down problems it would have been nice if the docs would cover the underlying mechanics, which I currently can only guess about.
Will let you know how I get on... many thanks so far, cheers!

Hi Andre - Just to cover the basics, have you tried putting both skeletons into a loosely matched initial t-pose? This seems to work best for setting up the initial retarget. Following common sense for the inputs should work pretty well (it did for me) - in the sense that the wrist will be whatever node drives the main rotation for the hand, somewhat regardless of its physical location. Make sure not to miss any major nodes that are contributing motion outside the main hierarchy (like COG) If you're using a standard xsi rigging approach, it's located at or near the pelvis and can be defined as the same node in the selection process, unless you have a reason to distinguish between them.
hope this is helpful

I'm currently trying to get my head around the MOTOR system, transfering Rig to Rig. Although the skeletons are pretty identical, I'm having a hard time getting the animation to transfer in a non-exploding fashion.
I'm pretty sure that a good starting point for debugging is the mapping template, me not picking the right elements for the input fields (things like "wrist" and "spine root" could point to quite a lot of skeleton elements around these areas, or the distinction between "COG" and "pelvis" simply not matching my skeleton). Unfortunately documentation on this topic is non-existent in the docs, and I can't find any examples (where are tutorials covering this topic, btw?).
So, anything I have missed on the documentation side? Or anyone willing to share a working setup recipe?
Thanks in advance, cheers!
