I'd say it's time to make a new .map format, as this will totally screw up renderfarms. And this time, how about if we don't hard-code stuff like the filtering level into the file header? (I'm pretending that Mental Images is reading this).

ouch - architecture specific image format - who was the genius behind that idea?

Yes. Map files are essentially a memory dump of the internal image format that mental ray uses.

mr will happily load them from other platforms but doesn't make any guarantees about their usefulness in that case.

I am seeing a difference in rendering a scene with a big map file. On 32
bit it renders normally, on 64 bit it renders all blurry.

Do I need to make the map for the 64 bit machine ON the 64 bit machine?

Thanks,
