Thanks, but that didn't work for me, it was the first thing I tried. =) However, I managed to solve it by opening the paint options (ctrl-w), there's a button there which lets you pick a map, the pick procedure is kind of buggy, but it actually worked!

Normally the paint tool defaults to the last selected or applied map on an object. If there are multiple maps and the one you want isn't active, just select it in any way. The most convenient way is probably Explore > Property Maps > Envelope_Weights.

Hey,
Sometimes when I want to change the envelope of a character by weightpainting, my weightmap isn't active - or something. The character turns black instead of showing the map colours, and nothing happens when I paint. It's as if the existing weightmap isn't currently active. If that's the case, how can I pick it for painting? (v6 btw...)
