hey Bernard.. sometimes I find that using a temporary push op lower in the stack (shape modeling) helps to resolve some of these sticky situations by temporarily thinning out the geo in these areas (delete the op when weighting is looking better.

The other thing I tend to do is make extensive use  of poly cluster visibility to get at hidden/obscured areas.
