In the jungle that's called HD for TV, that's a common typo and "basic" formats used are1280x720p and 1920x1080i.
(there are a lot more, but to keep all this "simple")
Both are 16:9 aspect ratio, and the first is a progressive format with 60 fps, the second a interlaced format with 50fps.
So XSI defaulting to 720p60 is correct. HD is a very confusing set of "standards" if you ask me ;-)

Just about to render a 1280x720 project in XSI, it defaults to progressive (60 frames a second)
