That quote is actually from a piece of VFX history. It's from an email that's been expanded upon, and has been going around, for the last 15 years or so.
I had to take it out of my signature because all the ballsy noobs who've been at CG for a couple months, and think they got the world by the gonads, didn't get it and assumed it meant something else. On the upside, I'm still raking in cash from all the dog biscuits I got that I'm slowly trickle selling on ebay.

"..indeed a little bit of a loose interpretation/use of the term TD out

lol Brad, your response starts to sound like the joy of pulling teeth.

I cannot speak for other companies out there who use the term TD loosely,
but from where I worked (ubisoft), a TD was actually a TD (technical
director). Truth be told, I never heard of a character animator being
refered to as a TD (usually they are simply labeled as animators...
character leads are simply lead character artists. pretty straight
forward).
Perhaps there is indeed a little bit of a loose interpretation/use of the
term TD out there.

Sorry if I misunderstood your post and ruffled some feathers. Rest
assured,
no teeth pulling tonight ;)
